Here's a little about us ...
Manor Organic Farm in Long Whatton, Leicestershire, is farmed by Graeme Matravers while his wife Vivienne, manages the organic farm shop and bakery. Both believe that organic farming is a positive philosophy, and is more than just avoiding the use of artificial chemicals and fertilisers. It is an approach to farming which views the farm as a whole system in harmony with the natural surroundings and nature itself. The farm is accredited by the Soil Association as organic.
Healthy soil, healthy food, healthy people...
The farm shop offers a wide range of organic produce, including organic meat, organic vegetables,
organic poultry and organic bread from our own bakery. The farm beef comes from its stock
of a local rare breed of cattle, the Longhorn, and the lamb is from its pedigree herd of
Lleyn sheep.
The couple took over the farm in 1994 and immediately set about converting it to organic.
More than a decade on, Manor Farm is home to a flock of sheep, a beef herd, chickens and an organic
farm shop and organic bakery.
Around the farm local wildflowers, grown specifically to attract beneficial insects such as lacewings, hoverflies and ladybirds flourish in maintained hedgerows. An integrated rotation means crops can be grown specifically for the farm's needs. Graeme and Vivienne's approach goes far beyond the day-to-day workings of Manor Farm.
